God Is Watching Over Me

GOD IS WATCHING OVER ME

An original song by Kevin L. Suffecool

Although I usually play other people's songs, occasionally I write my own whenever inspiration hits me. I wrote this song back in the late 90's, and have been wanting to record a demo of it for some time. Finally, in June of 2013, I called up my talented musician friend Kim Taulbee and asked if we could try to knock it out. I played the basic melody for him on the piano along with a temp drum track, and then I laid down the vocals in multiple takes.

Although I had originally envisioned the song being sung by a female artist with a minimal backup band consisting of keys, bass and drums, Kim took it in the opposite direction and gave it a big brassy sound, complete with a B3 organ and awesome BGVs! I love his take on my song, but still plan to eventually record it in my laid back "jazz club" style. Enjoy!!

God Is Watching Over Me

They’ll never be a Savior like my Jesus. He’s everything I need from day to day.
Since I’ve been forgiven, I’ve finally started livin’. I’m trusting Him to show me the way,
For I once was blind, but now my eyes can see that God is watchin’ over me.

My God sends His angels out before me, and He’s got some more watchin’ my back.
He shows His affection by giving protection to shield me from the enemy’s attack
As He guides my life through dangers I can’t see. My God is watchin’ over me.

When I find myself driftin’ near temptation ‘cause the devil wants to throw me off my game;
Though he keeps persistin’, I keep resistin’ by calling on the power of Jesus’ name.
I just speak His name and Satan has to flee, ‘cause God is watchin’ over me.

He’s with me through the good times and He’s with me through the valley of death.
His Word’s a lamp and light unto my feet.
He’s built a hedge around me, and He’s always there to catch me when I fall.
He’ll stick closer than a brother. There’ll never be another. He makes my life complete.

Well, my Jesus will be with me on this journey. I’ll never have to walk it alone.
He’ll be right beside me, to love me and to guide me, until that day He’s calling me home,
Then I’ll be praising Him for all eternity with my God watchin’ over me.
